About Maryam khan

I’m Maryam Khan, a 22-year-old Biotechnology student sharing my journey of resilience and growth. My life took an unexpected turn when I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes on June 10, 2019, a day that should have been filled with celebration for my brother’s birthday. Instead, it became a turning point that changed everything for me.

The Diagnosis: A Haunting Moment

On that joyful day, while decorating and enjoying the festivities, I suddenly felt overwhelmingly tired and faint. I collapsed, and panic filled the room. My mom tried to revive me, but something felt terribly wrong. After alarming tests revealed my blood sugar was over 350, my family received the shocking news that I had diabetes. At first, I thought, “It’s just diabetes. How bad can it be?” But soon, I realized this was a life-altering diagnosis that I would face every day.

A Roller Coaster of Emotions

Living with diabetes has been a roller coaster filled with ups and downs. I struggled with constant fatigue and unusual weight loss, symptoms that went unrecognized by those around me. Friends even distanced themselves, fearing they could “catch” diabetes from me. I faced countless questions, from misunderstandings about my condition to concerns about my future.

Despite these challenges, I learned to embrace my journey. I’ve grown more resilient and have found a deep appreciation for love and support that focuses on who I am inside, not just my condition.

Navigating Challenges and Discovering Strength

This journey has not been easy. I’ve faced panic attacks that feel suffocating and overwhelming, often triggered by stress. Yet, I’ve discovered a newfound confidence within me. I’ve learned to be strong, to protect myself from fear, and to see each challenge as a lesson.

In everyday moments, like during a lecture, I grapple with sudden fluctuations in my blood sugar. Sometimes it feels like I’m playing a game with no clear rules. Yet, through these experiences, I am slowly becoming the hero of my own story.

Finding Beauty in the Struggles

Through everything, I remind myself that each hard moment teaches me something valuable. I embrace my journey and look forward to the rewards it will bring. I believe that after every storm, a new day emerges, and each day is an opportunity to reflect on how far I’ve come.

Art has become my escape. When I feel stressed or overwhelmed, I turn to painting. I often create images of birds rising from their ashes, symbolizing my ability to overcome challenges. Just like the bird, I know that I, too, can rise and soar above the clouds.

A Grateful Heart

So here I am, Maryam Khan, living with type 1 diabetes with a grateful heart. This is my journey—a mix of struggles and triumphs, hopes and fears. I’m excited to share more with you, and I hope my story resonates with those who are searching for strength and support in their lives.
